Tonight! Beat Research with Matt Shadetek (Together Festival)
With its roots in Central Square, Beat Research – which began in March 2004 at the no-longer-existing Enormous Room – played host to some of the best and brightest DJs and producers of underground bass music in the world. As the brainchild of multimedia artists Jake Trussel (DJ C) and Antony Flackett (DJ Flack), who teaches a hands-on class at MassArt, the party has seen performances from a long list of special guests including Scuba, DJ /Rupture, Kingdom, edIT, Mungo’s Hi-Fi, Uproot Andy, and thereminist Pamelia Kurstin. Still running nine years later, Beat Research continues to provide a home base for genre-bending sets which initially helped launch it as one of Boston’s most anticipated parties.
On May 15th, New York City native, Dubspot NYC production teacher, and co-founder of the global beat-music label Dutty Artz, Matt Shadetek is headed to Good Life for this famous experimental music party during the week of Together Boston, May 12-19th.
Shadetek’s eclectic hip-hop infused beats prove to have something to offer for all listeners. His newest album entitled The Empire Never Ended, recently released through his own label co-founded with DJ /Rupture, includes tracks featuring well-known rappers such as Riff Raff, Troy Ave, Chan Dizzy, and Jahdan Blakkamoore.
He’ll be accompanied by two other members of the Dutty Artz crew, DJ Ripley and Cheif Boima, as well as DJ Flack and co-host Pacey Foster (DJ Pace), who will be performing live as their electronic punk duo, The Sublings.
Be sure to listen to some of Shadetek’s tunes below and look into buying a full pass to the Together Festival, which comes with free entry to all the shows and much much more.
