Beat Research Presents:
Ground Water Parables
Underground Hip Hop from Boston and New York
featuring; Trizlam, R0b0tr0n & Black Octagons
w/ resident DJs Flack & Pace
Featuring TRIZLAM, R0b0tr0n & BLACK OCTAGONS
This month BR is representing underground hip-hop with an exciting crew that reps both Dorchester and Brooklyn. Trizlam, R0b0tr0n and Black Octagons are all members of Ground Water Parables who rock original beats and dope rhymes with an eye on both the boom-bap of hip-hop’s golden age and its more futuristic explorations.
Our old friend Triz has been through BR before mixing new styles from around the world with more traditional music like that found on the cumbia 45s that he picked up on his travels through Colombia. Tonight, in addition to rocking the eclectic DJ style he is known for, we get to hear what his talented crew has been up to. The last time we caught producer and multi – instrumentalist r0b0tr0n in town, he was doing live production using a midi keytar – don’t sleep, this night is going to be insane!
Beat Research began in March 2004 at the Enormous Room in Central Square. The brainchild of multimedia artistsJake Trussell (DJ C) and Antony Flackett (DJ Flack), who teaches a hands-on class at MassArt by the same name, Beat Research provided a new base for the genre-bending sets the two had been playing since throwing parties with the Toneburst Collective in the late 90s. Bridging parochial club divides, Flack and C would overlay dub and jungle, hip-hop and dubstep, dancehall and bhangra and beats from all over. After co-hosting the residency for 3+ years, in 2007 DJ C moved to Chicago while musicologist and blogger Wayne Marshall (Wayne & Wax) returned to Cambridge, bringing his big Caribbeanist ears, YouTube dragnet, and love of “musically-expressed ideas about music” to the mix. In September 2012, our long time friend and collaborator Pacey Foster (aka DJ PACE) a true Beat Scholar/PartyRocker took over co-host duties from Wayne and is now holding it down strong with Flack.
