ICA Pre-Party Followed By Social Studies With DJ Spun & Deejay Theory

July 6, 2012, 9:30 pm

You probably saw fireworks on Wednesday, and now it’s time for you to experience then on the Dance Floor. This month Social Studies is back with a special DOUBLE FEATURE:

From 5-9pm, Social Studies DJs Brenden Wesley & Alfredo will Join DJ Knife at the ICA for a special Pre-Party celebrating the beginning of the ICA’s First Fridays Series.
From 10pm, Social Studies go back to the Good Life to keep you Dancing late into the Night. Joining us them this month is DJ Spun, founder of Rong Music, one of the most interesting labels on the planet right about now. Its genre-defying catalogue says as much about the artists as it does about the man behind the label.
Also San Fransisco’s Deejay Theory will be holding down the upstairs all night spinning hip hop, reggae, moombahton and party jamz.
More about DJ Spun: Since 2003 he has headed up the groundbreaking record label, a dual imprint collaboration with DFA, Tu Rong , and finally Promo Only – which brought the world wide Disco Edit craze to America.

DJ Spun is a DJ that people talk about in hallowed tones. His journey through music began with punk rock then through hip hop and the birth of House and continues to this day with the re-invention of this musical phenomenon. In addition to his now legendary club nights. He held residencies at several seminal West Coast parties. Manning the decks in countless guest spots Spun has racked up the frequent flyer miles playing at many world-renowned parties and clubs, among them Francios K’s Deep Space party at Cielo in NYC, San Francisco’s Wicked and Gathering,  LA’s Sarcastic Disco, Bad Passion and Horse Meat Disco in London, Frankfurt’s the Omen, Cookies in Berlin, BED in Bangkok, Liquid Room and Unit in Tokyo just to name a few.

Spun was the curator and organizer of MoMA/P.S.1′s prestigious Warm Up Music Series, known as “NYC’s best Summertime Party”. Currently his “All Night Rong Party” (usually with DJ Harvey) has developed a world wide cult following and is one of NYC’s most looked forward to events. Those in the know are currently anticipating the release of his “Originals” compilation on Claremont 56, remix of disco classic “Walk the Night” and the limited edition “DJ Spun’s Freestyle Party” 12″.
